Sofitel Montréal: Reimagining Renoir and Creating the Nini

Sofitel Montréal: Reimagining Renoir and Creating the Nini

As part of its major redesign, Sofitel Montréal undertook a complete transformation of its flagship spaces: the lobby, the iconic Renoir restaurant, and a new signature bar.

Dolo was entrusted with a dual mission: to refresh the identity of Renoir without compromising its legacy, and to create a distinctive new brand for the bar — conceived as a destination in its own right.

Le Renoir: Faire évoluer une icône

Renoir is more than a hotel restaurant — it’s a recognized landmark in Montréal’s culinary landscape, celebrated for its French cuisine elevated by local Québec terroir, under the leadership of Chef Olivier Perret.

The challenge: to modernize Renoir’s image without betraying its soul.

References to the Impressionist world — light, texture, sensual forms — were preserved, while the overall art direction was reimagined with a cleaner, more contemporary aesthetic.

Inventer une nouvelle destination : le Nini

At the same time, Dolo developed the full identity of a brand new space: Nini, the hotel’s cocktail bar.

But Nini is not just another hotel bar. It was designed as a standalone destination, aimed at attracting both Montréal locals and international guests.

The name was inspired by a deep dive into Renoir’s universe. Nini is a nod to Nini Lopez, one of Renoir’s favorite models — a free spirit, playful and bold. This soft, singular name became the starting point for a full brand identity designed as an invitation to exploration.

Nini is a cocktail lounge that is intimate, warm, and surprising — somewhere between an artist’s studio and a cabinet of curiosities. A place where the visual identity plays a central role in setting the tone.
